HOW CAN PEOPLE ASSES THE BENEFITS OF A CONSERVATION PROJECT?

It becomes very important for the masses to be able to tell wether a particular conservation project has been of benefit to them. Oddly the mannner at which the management gauges the acrued benefits of the project is absolutely different from what the person on the ground would asses the whole initiative. So how would you asses if a conservation project has been of benefit to you?

  1. I will asses the benefits of a conservation project if it has been able to create employment to the locals, improved the local infrustructure like roads and the improvement of other social amenities like hospitals and schools.

  2. Local communities can access the benefits from conservation for example if the conservation projects constructs roads for them (local communities) which is helpful for economic and social wellbeing.

  3. benefits can be accessed when the conservation projects initiate scholarships to the local communities that can be from primary level, high schools and tertiary institutions which will empower them.

  4. The benefits of a conservation project can also be assessed from the ecological point of view. In that the environmental degradation has reduced and that people are more conscience of the merits of environmental conservation.

  5. Any conservation project must have clearly stated objectives and can only be said to have succeeded if the objectives are achieved as stated. Ithas to touchall aspects of biological and ecological areas.

  6. there are a myriad of indicators on any project beneficiary analysis. in conservation project, some of the beneficiary indicators would be the number of locals engaged in the conservation initiatives either directly or indirectly. this would be for example entail how many locals are involved in entrepreneural activities and the number of people involved in viable alternative sources of livelihood.
