SAVE OUR NATURAL RESOURCES

With the rapid depletion of natural resources in the world today, what are you doing as an individual to reverse the trend and what do you think should the policy makers do to contain the situation before it's to late?

  1. I try as much a possible not to waste resources by switching of power when am not using, recycling and educating people on the importance of sustainable utilization of resources.

  2. I think our governments are doing a lot of talking but with little action.

  3. The bug stops with all of us!! People have to stop littering and insist on a clean environment! No more throwing out of rubbish from cars would be a good start!! Don't wait 4 the government 2 do things....we will drawn in waste if you keep on waiting...

  4. Governments should invest more in science and technology; several young people come up with ideas that can work but get no support.
Young environmentalists and scientists should seek techniques not strategies on how to conserve the environment.

  7. i believe the natural resources should be optimized in there use for sustainability to occur and not maximized which results to depletion.

  8. business establishments should learn to embrace sustainable use of resources as a business ethic.

  9. Companies that extract raw materials from the earth should embrace environmental ethics. Mining companies should lead from the front.

  10. The corporate woprld is to blame...they should let small businesses rise...they are taking over everything with their greediness at the expense of the individual

  11. I believe it's case of bleeding a leech to fatten a heifer, profit is their driving force regardless of the consequences.

  12. I recycle and reuse wherever possible. I do not waste fuel. I am aware of my impact and do all that i can to reduce it.
Governments need to talk about it a little less and take action, especially in areas where there a high populations.

  13. recycling and reusing reduces waste and in turn reduces the demand to extract and use more natural resources. Governments should reduce on the seminars and get to the ground. The situation is bad

  14. I think recycling and conscious use of resources is really important. Governments need to accept the reality of climate change and ecological destruction, and then educate their people - while we also need to educate people in our societies.

One measure that I rarely see people talking about is the implementation of a 1-child policy worldwide. This would have a huge impact on the number of people using resources in the future. (There are problems to overcome here, such as an aging population and deeply entrenched religious objections, but I think it's a worthy approach to begin lobbying for.)

  15. Since I am a Docent at a progressive zoo that is focused on conservation and education, I am able to inform and influence hundreds of people about recycle, reduce and reuse. We talk about one big way people can help save the Mountain Gorillas by recycling their cell phones since the mineral used in the cell phones is found directly in the Congo. People connect to something they care about.

  16. why dont we as concerned parties form our own movements for spearheading change. change begins with an idea, followed by action, and finally results are visibly. Egypt's revolution begun with an individual, and now they are a happy state. If we want a bright future, we need to start the initiative for environment conservation like awareness campaign, society education on environmental conservation factors and finally put pressure on the government. Otherwise if you wait then you will die waiting.

  17. Nature, Nature, Nature. I love nature. we need to seriously conserve our environment. I am a Computer wizard, we can use IT related services to campaign about environmental issues like throurg websites, making of computer games with environment messages so as to educate our kids from early stages of their lives. i love Nature, i really do.

  18. the environmental issues are very vital and need a combined efforts by the govrnments together with private individuals to educate the public (mainly comprising of illeterate and semi-illeterates) about the importance of sustainable use of the environment

  19. These efforts will enable them understand hw to utilise the environment and nature in general for both the present and future generations

  20. Governments especially in urban areas should stop the acts of giving out wetlands for development. This has been noted in cities like Kampala and Nairobi, where by the wetlands have been drained to pave way for real estate, grazing land and dumping site. Wetlands are an important resource in that they act as water filters, store water, a habitat to both flora and fauna among others. so governments should take the initiative to educate the masses on the importance of this resource and it should stem corruption in order to stop illegal allocation of this vital resource to developers.SAM

  22. Hey buddy you are on the right track..I promise you much of my time and airtime on www.eastafricaradiousa.com so that we can have adrive to support your effort in this environment crisis..thanks and lets all walk the talk .

  23. integrated coastal management is very important in safe guarding the coastal resources from over exploitation, reduce conflict, increase economic returns, reduce pollution among others. So sustainable utilization of resources is important if you want both the present and future generation to realize its benefits. ZAINAB OMAR

  24. on my way to university i saw a wetland being reclaimed for a housing project.Birds like the hadada ibis, sacred ibis, crested crane, egrets among others have their local habitat. Governments should stop allocating this vital resources for development. SAM

  25. Why not resolve to plant some trees every year? If each of us plants one little tree, it can amount to a great amount of afforestation making the environment healthier. Increasing the use of bicycles or making a habit to walk down short distances can contribute to reduction in air pollution. Try to minimize the use of vehicles. Use CFC-free products. For some destinations, the use of vehicles has no better options. But at least maintain your vehicles; clean their exhaust pipes, keep the pollution they cause under strict control

  26. The buck stops with us as individuals by the way we regulate the water flowing from our taps, how well we conserve the electicity that we use in domestics. These small things count a great deal in the long run.Kuddos to conservation organizations.Governments should support and emulate the good work they are doing to safeguard the future of the next generation.

  27. The ball is in everyone's coat. We need to keep in mind these great words by Chief Seattle that "If all the beasts were gone, man would die from great loneliness of spirits. For whatever happens to the beasts soon happens to man. All things are connected." Therefore lets keep our natural resources intact.

  28. this is a very crucial thing which needs commitment and full dedication of every one for all of us and the future generation to enjoy as our forefathers enjoyed. i urge the policy makers to be themselves and know the policies should be to optimize the resources not to maximize."keep our natural resources, the consequences are like time which never fails"

  29. take an example of generally herpetofauna, which are on the verge of extinction.there are several factors which threaten their existance are as follows;habitat destructions, global climate change due to pollution, diseases, human predation which has seen the largest species of snakes like the acrocodus javinicus(elehpnaht trunk snake),anaconda and pythons.their importance in the ecosystem is to bring ecological balance and to check the number of mice in an area, and this is done mostly by the vipere and adder family(gabonica vipere, horned viper and the bitis addder."although many see snakes as a evil sign but i feel this are angels on earth."

  30. A tour around lake Victoria revealed to me on how the Lake has been degraded. The climax species have invaded the lake, water hyacinth is so dominant, that it is literally chocking the lake, sedimentation is evident among others. I believe the concerned authorities should do something before it is too late. The lake supports nearly 30 million people.

  31. Target the youth. The younger the better.

The importance & rewards of conservation need to be engrained in their minds along with other do's and don't in life we already teach. We ought to make preservation a natural part our lives and our children's lives. Teach them to appreciate what God has given us to enjoy.

We teach through EXAMPLE, redirection, and exhortation.

  34. with the current trend on climate change, governments and nations need to move with speed and implement the international treaties and agreements on conservation. More so community based adaptation mechanisms should highly adopted.

    ReplyDelete
  35. i believe the society needs to be informed on what constitutes a natural resource, it's relevance and how to utilize them minus being destructive.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Policy makers should just shelf selfish interests and run a race for the sake of the interests of the community. Making policies with a wide spectral view of the usefulness of the policy in the society with multidisciplinary needs to avoid sectoral conflicts on the utilization and conservation of the Natural Resources.

  37. i think any government in the world is not doing their job. we need to be together (no nations) to fight these problems

    ReplyDelete
  38. We sometimes blame the government. i think For real nature lovers blame game is not the solution but acting on what we know is right for our environment.
